It’s Been Two Weeks…

Sweet Ruby is officially 2 weeks young today. The fastest two weeks we’ve ever experienced! But all is going well and life, though has taken on a new direction, is something we’re getting used to.

Since we’ve come home Ruby has gained some weight. Born at 5 pounds, 7 ounces, we had left the hospital at 5 pounds even. Today, at her 2 week checkup, she weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces. Doctor said she’s looking perfectly healthy and there is absolutely no concerns. We have gotten just so lucky with this bundle of joy. And she really is a joy. Even when it’s time to eat at midnight, 3am, 6am and so on…

We’ve been working our sleeping schedules around her eating schedules. And yes, it’s hard. Anyone who says the first few weeks of parenthood isn’t hard is lying. The pediatrician even told us today that one can only enjoy baby’s first month in retrospect. Never in the heat of the moment. I’m sure that’s because all I see now is exhaustion and one day when Ruby won’t sit still I will miss the snuggling and her desire to be in mom’s arms. It is then that I’ll look back and realize how great the first month was, even if I’m not getting any sleep. I’m not taking it for granted, but there are definitely times when I want my hands back. In fact, Ruby has got this “mom” thing down. Despite loving Daddy and all, she will have a big stink and just fuss and fuss for him but the second I sweep her up in my arms it’s absolute silence. Poor Daddy is a little disappointed he doesn’t have the same effect on her, but I know one day he will.

Other than that, not too much is going on. Looking forward to taking the baby out this weekend – Mommy and Daddy need to get out of this house for more than doctor visits and/or work (for Daddy). In the meantime… just look at these tootsies…
